Madison County Historical Society
MCHS is an all volunteer member Society. The members and volunteers give of their time, talents, energy, experiences, and knowledge to the benefit of our community, county, and prosperity of the Society. It’s all about the people who came before us, their lives, the contributions and achievements that makes our history come alive.
The collecting of stories, books, and family histories is an intriguing journey of discovery and is only part of what we do. Our aim and effort is to make our community better by caring for and sharing the knowledge we have of our rich and wonderful heritage.
We are located in the Madison County History Center in downtown Anderson, Indiana. Our building was donated to MCHS and has become our permanent home. We continue to update, rehab, and expand our facility to better serve the community and the county. We are open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our monthly meetings, exhibits, and libraries are free for public use.
Our building, the Madison County History Center, is large and has three entrances on 11th Street. Visitors are encouraged to come to our offices; however, you may enter any of the entrances. They are:
- Exhibit Hall & Historic Photo Gallery–7 West 11th Street
- Lobby, Bowman Room & History Library–11 West 11th Street
- Offices & Genealogy Library–15 West 11th Street
